What Is This Program?

Technical assistance is provided to develop a WHIP Plan of Operation (WPO) for eligible participants. Cost-share payments may be made to implement fish and wildlife habitat conservation practices. Up to seventy-five percent cost-share is available from NRCS to reimburse participants for installing conservation practices beneficial to wildlife.

This program provides financial and technical assistance to agricultural producers and non-industrial forest managers for implementing conservation practices. It encompasses various Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) programs such as the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP), Agricultural Management Assistance (AMA) Program, Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP), and Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP). The 'Act Now' initiative accelerates funding decisions for eligible applications, often supported by significant investments from the Inflation Reduction Act and Farm Bill.

Who Is Eligible?

Industries: agriculture, forestry

Region: United States, state-specific criteria apply

Other Criteria: Agricultural producers, farmers, ranchers, and landowners (including non-industrial forest managers), Must establish a farm tract number with USDAโ€™s Farm Service Agency (if not previously utilized USDA programs), Must certify compliance with adjusted gross income (AGI) limitation provisions, Must comply with highly erodible land and wetland conservation requirements (Food Security Act provisions), Must have an official tax ID (Social Security number or Employer ID), Must have a property deed or lease agreement to show control of the property, Projects must address local resource concerns and provide conservation benefits
