What Is This Program?

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) (Public Law 117-58) continues to allocate funds over fiscal years 2022 through 2026 to assist the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in constructing and improving bridges, roads, and the necessary inter-island connectors.

What Benefits Are Offered?

Annual federal funds and technical assistance for constructing and improving bridges, roads, and inter-island connectors. For FY22, Puerto Rico is authorized approximately $173 million and the U.S. territories are authorized approximately $46 million. Over the five years of IIJA (FY22-26), both will receive over 14% more than under the FAST Act. Funds are available for purposes eligible under the National Highway Performance Program (NHPP), Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), and other Chapter 1 of Title 23 U.S.C. activities, including preventative maintenance on the National Highway System. The federal share is 100% for territories and as provided in 23 U.S.C. 120 for Puerto Rico.
