The Wildlife Crossings Pilot Program (WCPP) is a competitive grant program with the goal of reducing Wildlife Vehicle Collisions (WVCs) while improving habitat connectivity for terrestrial and aquatic species. What Is This Program?

The IIJA establishes the Wildlife Crossings Pilot Program (WCPP) to provide discretionary grants for projects that seek to achieve a reduction in the number of wildlife-vehicle collisions and improved habitat connectivity for terrestrial and aquatic species.

What Benefits Are Offered?

A competitive grant program authorized for $350 million total in Federal-aid contract authority funding for Federal Fiscal Years 2022 through 2026. Funding is provided for construction and non-construction projects aimed at reducing Wildlife Vehicle Collisions (WVCs) and improving habitat connectivity for terrestrial and aquatic species. Projects can include engineering, design, permitting, right-of-way acquisition, planning, research, and educational activities. A non-Federal matching share of at least 20% of the total project cost is generally required, with some exceptions for certain safety projects or projects providing access to Federal or Tribal land.

Other Criteria: State Departments of Transportation, Metropolitan Planning Organizations, Units of local government, Regional transportation authorities, Special purpose districts or public authorities with a transportation function, Indian tribes, Federal Land Management Agencies, A group of any of the above entities
