What Is This Program?

The NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR) drives technology innovation for industry by developing and making available neutron-based measurements of materials. These measurements provide detailed information about the structure and dynamics of materials that is challenging or even impossible to obtain using other methods. Neutron measurements have been used to advance a wide variety of important technologies including biopharmaceutical manufacturing, personal care products, advanced plastics and composites, batteries, oil recovery and transportation, chemical production and separation, advanced data storage, quantum sensors, microelectronics, and advanced engineering materials such as those produced through additive manufacturing. As a National User Facility, the NCNR provides access to measurements for the public through various access mechanisms. Activities supported would include research that clearly advances the state of the art in neutron-based measurements, including support to conferences, workshops, or other technical meetings that would develop workforce, disseminate technical achievements, and educate the public in the utilization of neutron-based measurements.
