To assist in financing capital and planning projects to upgrade the accessibility of legacy rail fixed guideway public transportation systems for people with disabilities, including those who use wheelchairs, by increasing the number of existing stations or facilities for passenger use that meet or exceed the new construction standards of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (42 U.S.C. 12131 et seq.).

What Benefits Are Offered?
Competitive grant funding to assist in the financing of capital projects for repairing, improving, modifying, retrofitting, or relocating infrastructure of stations or facilities. The goal is to make all public areas of legacy rail fixed guideway public transportation stations accessible to people with disabilities, meeting or exceeding ADA standards. The federal share is not to exceed 80% of the net project cost.

Other Criteria: designated recipients that allocate funds to legacy rail fixed guideway public transportation systems, states (including territories and Washington D.C.), local governmental entities that operate legacy rail fixed guideway public transportation systems, projects to make all public areas of stations accessible to people with disabilities, including those who use wheelchairs, projects that meet or exceed the new construction standards of title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), operating legacy rail fixed guideway public transportation systems
