Competitive grant funding provided through three programs (Wood Innovations Grant, Community Wood Grant, and Wood Products Infrastructure Assistance Grant) to advance innovative wood uses, expand wood-based construction, grow U.S. wood energy markets, and increase forest product processing capacity. This includes developing new wood products, increasing wood use in commercial and residential construction, expanding wood energy systems, and modernizing or increasing the capacity of wood products manufacturing facilities.

Other Criteria: Eligible entities include private businesses, for-profit and non-profit organizations, tribes, state and local governments, institutions of higher education, public utility districts, fire districts, conservation districts, and school districts., Applicants must have an active System for Award Management (SAM) registration and Grants.gov account., Projects must support long-term, sustainable management of National Forest System lands and other forest lands., Wood Innovations Grant projects focus on mass timber, renewable wood energy, and technological development for hazardous fuel reduction and sustainable forest management., Community Wood Grant projects involve installing thermally led community wood energy systems or building innovative wood product manufacturing facilities (with an emphasis on assisting sawmills in economically challenged areas to retool or add advanced technology)., Wood Products Infrastructure Assistance (WPIA) Grant projects provide support for facilities that purchase and process byproducts of ecosystem restoration projects, especially in areas of unnaturally severe high fire or insect/disease infestation and in close proximity to federal or Indian lands.
