What Is This Program?

The recipients will provide technical assistance to CDC, state tobacco control programs, and other partners by translating the science of tobacco cessation into public health interventions that lead to an increase in number of U.S. adult smokers who try to quit and who succeed in quitting. CDCโ€™s Best Practices for Comprehensive Tobacco Control Programs outlines three broad goals for state tobacco control programsโ€™ cessation activities : (1) promoting health systems change; (2) improving insurance coverage of proven cessation treatments and increasing use of these treatments; and (3) supporting state quitline capacity. Through this funding opportunity, the Office on Smoking and Health seeks to continue to provide technical assistance and training to state tobacco control programs and their partners related to these activities to increase smoking cessation rates through implementation of effective population-based cessation strategies, while recognizing that in practice the three areas overlap.
