Provides food benefits to low-income families to supplement their grocery budget, helping them afford nutritious food essential to health and well-being. Benefits are issued monthly on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card for use at authorized food stores and retailers. Maximum monthly allotments vary by household size, e.g., $298 for 1 person, up to $1,789 for 8 people (for 48 contiguous states and DC).

Who Is Eligible?

Region: All US states and territories (specific limits may vary by state)

Demographics: low-income families, households with elderly members, households with disabled members, children under 18

Other Criteria: Meet specific income limits (e.g., for Oct. 1, 2025, through Sept. 30, 2026, gross monthly income generally must be at or below 130% of poverty, net monthly income at or below 100% of poverty. Specific dollar amounts vary by household size, e.g., $1,696 gross/$1,305 net for a 1-person household; $3,483 gross/$2,680 net for a 4-person household). Income limits are higher in Alaska and Hawaii., Meet specific resource limits (e.g., $3,000 in countable resources, or $4,500 if at least one member is age 60 or older or disabled. Certain resources like home/lot, SSI/TANF resources, and most retirement plans are excluded). State-specific broad-based categorical eligibility (BBCE) may allow higher limits., Meet work requirements (register for work, not voluntarily quit/reduce hours, take offered job, participate in E&T programs if assigned)., Able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs) must work or participate in a work program for at least 20 hours/week to receive benefits for more than 3 months in 36., Must be a U.S. citizen or a certain lawfully present non-citizen (e.g., lived in the US for at least 5 years, receiving disability benefits, or under 18 years old)., Apply in the state where you currently live.
