Summer EBT is a Federally-assisted program through which participating States and Indian Tribal Organizations provide EBT benefits to children who lose access to free and reduced price meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) during the summer when school is not in session.

What Is This Program?

The objective of the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer Program for Children is to reduce hunger and food insecurity for children who lose access to free and reduced price meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) during the summer when school is not in session. States provide benefits on EBT cards to children who were determined eligible for free or reduced price school meals in the prior school year or during the summer. Benefits can be used to purchase food from approved retailers.

What Benefits Are Offered?

Provides $120 in grocery benefits per eligible school-age child during the summer months. Benefits can be used to purchase fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, dairy products, breads, cereals, snack foods, and non-alcoholic drinks from authorized retailers.

Who Is Eligible?

Region: participating states, Tribes, and territories in the U.S., Specific Tribal Nations in Oklahoma (Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee Creek, Otoe-Missouria) for residents on Tribal land

Demographics: school-age children

Other Criteria: Household receives SNAP, TANF, FDPIR, or certain other income-based benefits (for automatic enrollment), Child attends a school that offers the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program and household income makes them eligible for free or reduced-price school meals (for automatic enrollment), Child's household meets specific income limits and other requirements (for manual application if not automatically enrolled)
