Brownfield sites are real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. What Benefits Are Offered?
Annual financial support through cooperative agreements to states, Tribal Nations, and territories to establish or enhance their brownfields response programs. This includes building local capacity for brownfield assessment, safe cleanup, and sustainable reuse, as well as ensuring public record maintenance of sites. The program is authorized at $50 million per year, shared among eligible entities.

Other Criteria: States (as defined in CERCLA ยง 101(27)), Indian Tribes (as defined in CERCLA ยง 101(36)), Intertribal consortia (as defined in Federal Register Notice at 67 FR 67181, Nov. 4, 2002), Seeking to establish or enhance state or tribal brownfields response programs, Responsible for developing brownfields cleanup standards and policy, Conducting or overseeing assessment and cleanup of brownfield sites in their jurisdictions, Committed to maintaining a public record of sites
