What Is This Program?

The Regional Food System Partnerships Program (RFSP) supports partnerships that connect public and private resources to plan and develop local or regional food systems and encourage food economy viability and resilience. Applicants must partner to promote the development of local or regional food systems. The partners will work together to set priorities, connect resources and services, and track progress towards shared goals. Partnerships must bring a variety of innovative financial and technical capabilities, show they can work effectively and collaboratively with both public and private groups across sectors, and present sustainable and measurable ways to achieve the projectโ€™s goals. The program offers two types of projects, 24-month Planning and Design and 36-month Implementation and Expansion Projects.

What Benefits Are Offered?

Grant funding for projects aimed at strengthening regional food systems. Two project types are available: 24-month Planning and Design projects ($100,000-$250,000) and 36-month Implementation and Expansion projects ($250,000-$1,000,000). The program requires a 25% cash-only cost share contribution of the total Federal grant portion.

Who Is Eligible?

Industries: agriculture, food systems

Other Criteria: producers, farmer or rancher cooperatives, producer networks or associations, majority-controlled producer-based business venture, community supported agriculture networks or associations, food councils, local governments, nonprofit corporations, public benefit corporations, economic development corporations, regional farmers market authorities, tribal governments, must have eligible partners (e.g., state agencies or regional authorities, philanthropic corporations, institutions of higher education, private corporations, commercial, federal or farm credit system lending institutions)
