Recreational Trails Program
Department Of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration
The purpose of this program is to provide funds to the States to develop and maintain recreational trails and trail-related facilities for both nonmotorized and motorized recreational trail uses. The funds represent a portion of the motor fuel excise tax collected from nonhighway recreational fuel use.

Flexible funding for States and localities to preserve and improve conditions and performance on Federal-aid highways, bridges, tunnels, public roads, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, and transit capital projects, including intercity bus terminals. Funds are apportioned by a formula contained in law.
