What Benefits Are Offered?
Provides grants to sponsoring organizations for the repair or rehabilitation of housing owned or occupied by low- and very-low-income rural citizens. Funds can be used to provide grants or low-interest loans for housing repair, including electrical, foundations, roofs, insulation, heating, water/waste disposal systems, handicap accessibility features, labor, materials, and administrative expenses. A specific maximum award of $50,000 applies to grants for repairs in Presidentially declared disaster areas from 2022. The total program funding for FY2025 is $13,100,000.
Who Is Eligible?
Region: Rural areas and towns with 20,000 or fewer people, Federally Recognized Tribal lands, State-specific availability within eligible rural areas
Other Criteria: Most State and local governmental entities, Nonprofit organizations, Federally Recognized Tribes, Applicants must have the necessary background and experience with proven ability to perform the responsibility of repair and rehabilitation of low-income housing, Ability to submit quarterly reports to show grant progress, For disaster funding, properties must have sustained damage in a calendar year 2022 Presidentially declared disaster area
