The Metropolitan Planning Program establishes a cooperative, continuous, and comprehensive framework for making transportation investment decisions in metropolitan areas. This Assistance Listing 20.275 created in August 2025 was included in the previous ALN 20.205, please refer to former ALN 20.205 for FY24 and FY25 financial obligations. The new Assistance Listing 20.275 will be utilized by DOT at the start of FY 2026.

What Benefits Are Offered?
Formula-based apportionment of funding to State DOTs, which then make funds available to Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) for specified planning activities. A 2.5% set-aside is required for activities increasing safe and accessible options for multiple travel modes for people of all ages and abilities, typically with an 80% federal share. Technical assistance, data, and web-based tools for evaluating transportation investments are also provided.
