What Is This Program?

his program will support states and/or local and tribal governments to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of criminal and juvenile justice system operations by implementing targeted solutions to high-cost drivers of crime and other public safety and/or justice system challenges. Challenges may include chronic or emerging crime problems, or barriers to justice agenciesโ€™ ability to address such problems that make it difficult for communities to ensure the security and safety of their residents and drive improved outcomes for youth in the system.

What Benefits Are Offered?

Intensive technical assistance from experts (CSG Justice Center, CJI) to help jurisdictions implement data-driven criminal justice reforms, improve supervision policies and practices, expand access to research-based programs, manage costs, and reduce disparities. Includes grant funding for approved projects in two phases focusing on policy development and implementation support.

Who Is Eligible?

Industries: justice, public safety, criminal justice reform

Region: State, Local, Tribal jurisdictions

Other Criteria: Commitment from leaders across all branches of state government to address criminal justice challenges through the JRI approach, Capacity to collect, share, and analyze data across key points in the criminal justice system, Willingness to establish a committee with representatives from all three branches of government and key criminal justice stakeholders to guide the JRI effort, For site-based funding: ability to address persistent or emerging crime and public safety problems or remove impediments to directly addressing them.
