What Is This Program?

Award funds to health centers under Section 330(e) of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act to improve the health of medically underserved communities and populations by ensuring continued access to comprehensive, high-quality primary health care services in the United States and its territories. Awards may include funding to support health centers to provide primary care services to a population that is medically underserved (community health center or CHC funding) or to serve one or more special medically underserved population as defined in Section 330(g) Migratory and Seasonal Agricultural Workers (MSAW funding), (h) Homeless Population (HP funding), and/or (i) Residents of Public Housing (RPH funding). Funding opportunities may also support: one or more administrative priorities or emerging public health issues; new health centers and service delivery sites that expand access to primary health care; and innovative, evidence-based models to increase access to primary health care services.

Financial support (grants, scholarships, loan repayment) and resources for educational, community, and healthcare organizations, students, and professionals. Funding is available for a wide range of health-related activities including primary and preventive care, maternal and child health services, HIV/AIDS care and treatment, health workforce development, health infrastructure projects (construction/renovation), training, and information technology. Benefits aim to improve health outcomes, strengthen the health workforce, and provide quality services, especially in rural or underserved communities, and for vulnerable populations.

Region: US-wide, rural areas, underserved communities, Eligible Metropolitan Areas, Transitional Grant Areas, states and territories

Demographics: students, health professionals, pregnant women and their babies, people with HIV with lower incomes, economically or medically vulnerable individuals, American Indians and Alaska Natives

Other Criteria: educational groups, community groups, community-based organizations, nonprofit organizations, healthcare providers, organizations supporting health infrastructure, training, or telehealth
