Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention
Department Of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service
To provide technical and financial assistance in carrying out works of improvement to protect, develop, and utilize the land and water resources in watersheds. The assistance is provided to State and local agencies and tribal governments, to prevent damage caused by erosion, floodwater, and sediment; further the conservation, development, utilization, and disposal of water; and advance the conservation and utilization of the land.

Provides technical and financial assistance for planning and implementing authorized watershed projects. These projects aim to achieve flood prevention, watershed protection, public recreation, public fish and wildlife management, agricultural water management, municipal and industrial water supply, and water quality management.

Industries: agriculture, natural_resources, water_management, conservation
Region: United States (federal, state, local, tribal jurisdictions)
Other Criteria: Project sponsors must be units of federal, state, local, or federally recognized tribal governments., Watershed projects must be 250,000 acres or less in size., Agricultural benefits (including benefits to rural communities) must constitute 20% or more of the total project benefits., Sponsors must have the capacity to act as the fiscal agent and provide project management and oversight throughout the different phases of construction, implementation, and project lifespan., Sponsors are responsible for obtaining easements, rights-of-way, permits, and local cost-share funding., An approved watershed plan must be in place prior to the initiation of any corrective land treatment or structural solutions.
