What Is This Program?

Under the statutory authority of the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) provided approximately $1.5 billion in additional support for emergency food programs to address supply chain challenges and elevated food costs. Of this total, $943 million was distributed through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) in the form of additional food and administrative resources. These resources were provided to State agencies in addition to TEFAP entitlement foods, bonus foods, and TEFAP administrative funds. To assist with the operational costs of the receipt, storage, and distribution of these foods, USDA provided CCC ERA Operational Funds to local agencies that distribute these foods to needy persons.
