What Is This Program?

The Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) advances U.S. interests by providing life-sustaining humanitarian assistance to forcibly displaced people worldwide, working with multilateral organizations and NGOs to reduce illegal immigration and human smuggling. Through its Office of International Migration and Repatriation (IMR), PRM addresses the humanitarian needs of displaced and stateless persons and their host communities and promotes durable solutions—including voluntary return, local (re)integration, and resettlement—via coordinated foreign assistance programs and strategic diplomacy with governments and stakeholders.
