Marine Fisheries Initiative
Department Of Commerce, National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration
To provide financial assistance for research and development projects that will provide information for the full and wise use and enhancement of fishery resources in the Southeast U. S. Gulf of America and the South Atlantic beginning with the State of North Carolina south to Florida. In addition, beginning in Fiscal Year 1998 similar assistance is provided for the coastal New England states.

Who Is Eligible?
Industries: marine fisheries research and development
Region: Gulf of Mexico, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, South Atlantic states (North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida)
Other Criteria: institutions of higher education, nonprofit organizations, individuals, state governments, local governments, Indian tribal governments, projects must optimize the use of fisheries in specified regions, projects must involve the U.S. fishing industry (recreational and commercial), projects must align with NOAA's mission goal 'Healthy Oceans', projects must align with NMFS Strategic Plan, projects should be cooperative efforts providing clear answers for fishery needs
