What Is This Program?

The Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) passed Congress and signed by the President committing $900 million to the Land and Water Conservation Fund and $1.9 billion annually for up to 5 years to land management agencies to address deferred maintenance backlog. Forest Service will receive approximately a $285 million appropriation for congressionally approved deferred maintenance projects.

Specifically, the Legacy Restoration Fund provides funding for US federal land management agencies to address deferred maintenance on national forests and grasslands, while the Land and Water Conservation Fund provides permanent funding and grants to federal, state, and local governments for land acquisition and conservation projects.
