The Grants to States program supports efforts across the nation to provide access to information and educational resources in a variety of formats, in all types of libraries, for individuals of all ages. Supported initiatives and services address individualsโ needs for education, lifelong learning, workforce development, economic and business development, health information, critical thinking skills, and digital, financial, and other types of literacies.

What Is This Program?
What Benefits Are Offered?
The largest source of federal funding support for library services in the U.S. More than $160 million is distributed annually among SLAAs using a population-based formula. Funds support statewide initiatives and services, and SLAAs can distribute funds through subawards or cooperative agreements to eligible libraries for activities like access to electronic databases, computer instruction, summer reading programs, digitization of collections, and outreach to the underserved.

Region: 50 states, District of Columbia, Guam, American Samoa, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau, Republic of the Marshall Islands
Other Criteria: State Library Administrative Agencies (SLAAs) charged by law with the extension and development of library services, Subrecipients may be public, academic, research, school, or special libraries or consortia (through SLAAs)
