What Is This Program?

The EL Fire Risk Reduction grant program supports research and collaborative activities that advance measurement science and standards in areas of current interest. Funded research seeks to develop, verify, and utilize measurements and predictive methods to quantify the behavior of fire and means to reduce the impact of fire on society. This work involves the integration of laboratory measurements, verified methods of prediction, and large-scale fire experiments to demonstrate the use and value of the research products as well as benefit-cost analysis, life-cycle costing, multi-criteria decision analysis, life-cycle system science, decision science, and econometrics to evaluate new technologies. It includes: Fire Fighting Technology, Engineered Fire Safety, Flammability Reduction, Wildland Urban Interface Fire, National Fire Research Laboratory.
