What Is This Program?

NIH will issue a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) alerting the extramural community that administrative supplements (within scope) are available to support existing recipient institutions with active awards that were impacted by Hurricanes Fiona and Ian. Recipients will have the opportunity to request 1) a 24-month extension of the current budget period, with 12-months of funding at the same funding level as the current year of the grant and/or 2a) one-time administrative supplements of up to $150,000 in direct costs (excluding consortium F&A costs) to replace lost and/or damaged research resources; and/or 2b) up to $250,000 to replace a single item of equipment so long as that request is accompanied by well-documented support for the need to replace that item of equipment and/or 2c) minor alternation and renovation (A&R) to research facilities up to $500,000. Supplement requests will be routed to the appropriate NIH Institutes and Centers for consideration. This spend plan was based on data collected from recipient institutions based in Florida, Puerto Rico and South Carolina with currently active awards, as well as previous disaster response funding announcements. Adjustments to the budget limits have been made based on cost of living increases since 2018, when previous hurricane funding was issued.
