The purpose of the DEG program is to strengthen the capacity of institutions of higher education in insular areas to carry out resident instruction, curriculum, and teaching programs in the food and agricultural sciences through distance education technology. Projects funded by the DEG program support the creation, adaptation, and adoption of learning materials and teaching strategies to operationalize what we know about how students learn. Competitive grants to strengthen the capacity of institutions of higher education in insular areas to carry out resident instruction, curriculum, and teaching programs in the food and agricultural sciences through distance education technology. Projects support creation, adaptation, and adoption of learning materials and teaching strategies, focusing on technical knowledge and employability skills (communication, teamwork, problem-solving).
Who Is Eligible?
Industries: food and agricultural sciences, agriculture related science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), natural resources, human sciences
Region: Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Republic of Palau, Virgin Islands of the United States, Insular Areas
Other Criteria: Institutions of higher education located in an Insular Area, Conducting teaching and extension programs in at least one discipline or area of food and agricultural sciences, Public or state-funded non-Land-grant institutions must submit a letter signed by the institution's Authorized Representative certifying requirements, Land-grant institutions and others with federal land-grant status are automatically eligible, Accredited 2-year and 4-year institutions of higher education offering certificate/degree programs in Food, Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Human (FANH) sciences, Demonstrable capacity to carry out teaching and extension programs in the food, agriculture, natural resources and human sciences, Individual branches of a State university system or public system of higher education separately accredited as degree-granting institutions are eligible, Independent branch campuses (geographically apart, permanent, offers credit courses/degrees, autonomous faculty/admin/budget/hiring authority) are eligible
