What Is This Program?

The Senior Demonstration Program authorizes the AmeriCorps Seniors’ Director to invest in innovative projects that demonstrate how older American volunteers may contribute to new objectives or certain national priorities. This Demonstration Authority allows organizations the flexibility to develop new ideas and creative programming that addresses community needs without some of the constraints applied to traditional AmeriCorps Seniors’ programs. AmeriCorps Seniors awards grants for the Senior Demonstration Program through special funding opportunities. Since the Senior Demonstration Program is not tied to signature AmeriCorps Seniors’ program models, applicants can propose new ways to deploy older adults in service that align with the objectives of the funding opportunity. The grantee as a whole can reduce social isolation and enhance their civic engagement services by utilizing a variety of volunteer opportunities and workforce options and expand within the community.
