What Is This Program?

Funding is provided to non-profit organizations to support their work in designing and administering programs as well as coordinating program logistics for U.S. English language educators, foreign students, and teachers of English as a foreign language as participants in study and professional development and international exchanges. Funding to those organizations supports activities such as publicity and recruitment, screening of applications, communication with recipients, payment of stipends, and other program costs and the provision of enrichment activities. The English Language Fellow Program provides host institutions and governments with sustained, long-term engagement by sending talented, highly qualified U.S. educators in the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) on ten-month fellowships to overseas academic institutions in all regions of the world. The Program promotes English language learning and enhances English teaching capacity abroad. The Virtual English Language Educator Program meets English language teaching and training objectives focused on niche audiences in public and private sectors abroad. The Program provides opportunities for U.S. educators to elevate their careers through work with U.S. embassies while maintaining their career, family, and home life in the United States. The English Language Specialist Program recruits U.S. academics and professionals in the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) to conduct programs overseas, both in person and virtually, for a minimum of two weeks. The English Access Scholarship Program (formerly English Access Microscholarship Program) leverages American English to build English language capacity with strategic audiences through in-person programming and exchanges in the United States. The program showcases U.S. educational excellence, demonstrates U.S. educational technology, and promotes opportunities for American business partnerships. The Online Professional English Network (OPEN) utilizes innovations in U.S. educational technology to facilitate U.S. diplomatic engagement with English language teachers, learners, and professionals worldwide. OPEN offers online courses, live events, and social media engagements that provide professional development opportunities for English language educators, professionals, and learners.
